Here’s to the land that gave us birth Here’s to the flag she flies. Here’s to her sons the best on earth, Here’s to her smiling skies. Here’s to our Alma Mater dear, True as the stars above, Here’s to our faith and honor dear, Here’s to the school we love. We never shall foget The golden haze of student days is ‘round about us yet. Those days of yore will come no more, But thru the future years The thought of you, so good, so true Will fill our eyes with tears. The thought of you, so good, so true Will fill our eyes with tears. I basically had to play the song at every pep rally, every football game, every basketball game and every commencement or stage band performance directed by Sherman McCally from the 9th grade through my senior year. That melody is burned into my memory banks deeper than Louie Louie, Midnight Hour and Thank You John. :)
For the words, "Here's to the land that gave us birth, here's to the flag she flies, here's to her sons the best on earth, here's to her smiling skies (or something like that). The rhythm is la lala la, la la, la la or "Here's tothe land, that gave, us birth" la lala la, la lah... "here's tothe flag, she fliiies."
The notes in the key of C on a piano are C, DE, B, A A, G G. If you have a piano start at middle C up to the DE, then back down to the B, down to the A, down to the G. "Here's to the flag she flies" is C D E D C A. Jimmy '66 |
